Mob lynches 3 men over Okada theft in Ondo

…as Police fume over jungle justice; threaten arrests
By Dayo Johnson
Akure — A mob, yesterday, lynched two brothers and one other robbery suspect in Akure, the Ondo State capital, causing panic and tension across the state.

Vanguard gathered that the suspected bandits stole two motorcycles at gunpoint along Aratusi Street, Oke-Aro in Akure metropolis.
The deceased brothers are Femi Ojo and Segun Ojo. Their accomplice, the third victim of jungle justice, is Taye Pius.
The theft of motorcycle used for commercial purposes had been rampant across the state in the last one month
In a swift reaction, the state Police Command warned against jungle justice, with its spokesman, Femi Joseph, saying the Command will not condone such act and vowed that the killers of the three suspects will be fished out and brought to book.
However, Vanguard learned that the suspects, after being beaten blue-black and severely injured by the youths, were later rescued by the Police, but died on their way to the hospital.
They were about to be set ablaze when the Police detectives got to the scene and took them away.
According to Joseph, “at about 8a.m., yesterday, along Aratusi Street in Oke-Aro, we were told that a three-man gang was caught while trying to steal an Okada. The owner raised the alarm, which attracted some members of the public.
“In no time, a mob descended on the suspects and beat them to a pulp. They sustained what I could describe as third degree injuries. We tried to rush them to hospital, but they died midway.”
The Police image maker said items recovered from the suspects include a locally-made pistol and the stolen motorcycles.
He added: “They are actually robbers, but we are worried with the jungle justice meted out to them. This is against the law.
“We will apprehend all those who participated in the jungle justice, because this is highly condemnable and reprehensible.”

The statement on the sack of Alhaji Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Ayo Oke, the former Director General of Nigerian Intelligent Agency (NIA) is a slap on the face of Nigerians. It is an insult on the-collective intelligence of our people who have waited patiently for the President’s reaction on the humongous act of corruption by two of his principal aides and this is totally unacceptable.

2.       First and foremost, we had disagreed with the President last year when he decided to setup the panel headed by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to investigate the matter because we thought that was the wrong course of action to take. Ordinarily, cases of corruption or alleged cases of misappropriation of funds are supposed to be referred to institutions that are saddled with the responsibility to investigate and prosecute such matters which is the ICPC and the EFCC if there is any prima facie case against them.

3.      But it appears not all animals are equal under the Buhari APC administration . some people are treated with kid gloves while others particularly those in opposition are subjected to all manner of harrowing experiences. One of the Senators of the APC, Senator Shehu Sani of Kaduna State succinctly put the matter when he said that this administration uses deodorant to fight corruption when it comes to some APC members and President Buhari’s kitchen Cabinet and insecticides when it involves members of the opposition and those in the National Assembly.

4.       It took the President almost one year to attend to this matter while the culprits were having a field day at home and enjoying themselves. Whereas, in the case of the opposition especially the PDP members, even when the evidence is flimsy they will be visited with multiple harassment and intimidation for months and weeks without proper trial.

5.       We site the case of Sambo Dasuki who has been in detention for over two years and running even when many courts in Nigeria and the Ecowas Court have ordered for his release, but the President has fragrantly disobeyed these court orders which again are a violation of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is an impeachable offence. So the President cannot just sack Ayo Oke and Babachir Lawal and expects us to be clapping for him.

6.       We believe that we are operating under a democracy and a Constitution that governs our affairs. To have subjected these people to different sets of rule and treatment is totally unacceptable. Nigerians are the same under the law and Babachir Lawal and Ayo Oke should not be tried by the Presidency while others are hounded by the EFCC and ICPC.

7.       These actions of Mr. President are therefore a breach of his oath of office which he swore to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to be fair and just to all Nigerians without any discrimination whatsoever. The action of the President is a gross violation of his constitutional oath and therefore constitutes a veritable ground for impeachment .Using and applying different laws to different people in the country is a direct assault on the constitution and the rule of law . Consequently, we call on the National Assembly to begin processes to impeach the President for breach of the Constitution and fragrance disobedient to the laws of Nigeria.

8.       We totally reject these actions and the law should follow its full course on the issues of these officers. In other words, their case should be referred to the EFCC for proper investigation and trial, more so when the President has not told us what the report of the findings was. Nigerians are entitled to know the findings of the panel headed by the Vice President. The report should be made public since it is the people’s money that is involved.

9.       The President has by his actions taken Nigeria to the level of a banana republic. We are not in a banana republic, this is the Federal Republic of Nigeria . Three successive governments of the PDP did not act in the manner President Buhari is acting.

10.    There is no doubt that the sudden sack of the SGF and the DG of NIA is just a consequence of the backlash on the Abdulrasheed Maina saga. Up till now there’s no answer to the pertinent questions we have asked on the Maina saga. The government cares less about the feelings and opinions of Nigerians. This kind of arrogance is unprecedented in the history of this county. We again call for the arrest and investigation of the two Ministers involved in the return of Maina into the Civil Service, that is, the Minister of Interior, Bello Dambazau and Abubakar Mallami , the Attorney General of the Federation & Minister of Justice.

God bless the PDP! God bless Nigeria!!

Davido’s Friends Still In Detention, 2 More Arrested Over Tagbo’s Death

TX News had earlier reported that
Davido has been cleared off the case linking him to the death of Tagbo, his late friend. The singer made series of social media posts suggesting that the case has been concluded and that he is now going to focus on making music.
It is said that two of the singer’s friends, and his driver, who were arrested last week over the same issue of Tagbo’s death, are still in police custody. The singer’s friends, Agbaje Olaoye and Idris Busari, were arrested last week Wednesday, October 11th, after Davido went in their company to see the commissioner of Police in Ikeja, who then ordered their arrest. The reason for their arrest is said to be because they abandoned the body of the late Tagbo at the hospital on October 2nd. Davido’s driver, Tunde Usutu, who was also arrested is also still in police custody.
The latest report has it that two other people have been arrested over the issue under investigation. They are said to be in Panti Police Station. However, Davido has been cleared off any complicity in the death of Tagbo.

Education / DELSU fees were not raised - VC

No Increment Of School Fees In DELSU

1) The Delta state University has not increased its tuition fees. The review of its acceptance fee is only for professional courses; Medicine, Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, etc.

2. The increment is reflective of the current economic realities and is necessary for the continuous maintenance of equipments, facilities and infrastructure even as government continues to improve and expand the already existing structures and even provide new ones.

3. It is part of the University's effort to generate funds in a bid to sustain the accreditation of the said courses.

4. Inspite of this upward review of acceptance fees for professional courses, Delta State University still ranks first among the most affordable state universities in Nigeria providing the best quality of learning, with an uninterrupted calendar as can be seen from the last strike embarked upon by ASUU, DELSU lecturers were not part of the strike action.

5. Findings have shown that Universities like: Chukwuemeka Odumegwu University, Charge as much as N402,300.00 for medical students and N187,000.00 for Law, Ambrose Alli University, Medicine N160,000.00, Engineering/Law/Nursing 130,000.00 and Acceptance of N75,000.00, In Ekiti State University, Law N205,000.00 and Engineering/Accounting etc is N151,000.00, Enugu State University; Acceptance is N75,000.00 while fees are  N124,000.00.

6. It is not the intention of the Delta State government and the University Management to cause inconveniences for intending students but such review is needed to maintain the standards already set in place by the State government and the Institutions management.

7) Lastly, DELSU's tuition fees remain unchanged and will not be increased.

"Fayose declared. EFCC arrests his aides. Atiku indicated interest. NPA terminates Intels. At this rate, can anyone run against President
Muhammadu Buhari in 2019? Should we just rename EFCC as the armed wing of the APC?

If they say the President of the World Bank misinterpreted President
Muhammadu Buhari 's request urging the bank to focus on Northern Nigeria, then how come 14 out of 17 leadership positions in the military are held by Northerners? How come 36 out of 55 recent top NNPC appointment went to Northerners? How come the Kano-Daura rail was approved while the rail links in Southeast were not funded? How come IPOB are declared terrorists and the army sent after them but Herdsmen are not and grazing reserves planned for them?

As a result, parents and teachers are advised not to submit their wards to persons or group of persons for any purported form of immunisation.

Doctors assist 2,000 to die

Nearly 2,000 people with incurable diseases were helped to die by Canadian doctors in the first year since the country legalised medically-assisted suicide.
From the time Ottawa passed the legislation in June 2016 to June 30, 2017, 1,982 people ended their lives in this way, according to Health Canada in a report published on Friday.

Most had cancer, the agency said.
Extrapolating from the data collected for the first half of 2017, the number of assisted deaths is expected to rise but remain at less than two percent of all deaths nationwide this year — “consistent with international experience,” it said a statement.
Doctor-assisted suicide in Canada is reserved for adults with serious health problems who want to end their suffering, and consists of a lethal injection in hospital or at home.
Days after the law was changed to allow for the practice, it was challenged in court in an attempt to expand it to include Canadians who suffer from a wasting disease but who are not facing imminent death.
These include people suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, multiple sclerosis, spinal stenosis, locked in syndrome, traumatic spinal injury, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease.

Canadian bishops have instructed their clergy to deny religious funerals for deceased persons who chose a doctor-assisted suicide.
